The Dark Side of AI: 10 Threats Everyone Should Understand

What happens when AI learns that breaking the rules helps it win? In this Halloween special, the AI Coalition Network looks at 10 of the darkest threats of artificial intelligence. Some are already real; others are serious risks researchers are working to understand. The goal is not to scare you away from AI, but to explain what we must do to keep it safe.

Corrections and clarifications (also shown on screen)

- Threat No. 1: The UK AI Security Institute's own Security Team ran this test on July 25–28, 2026, and AISI published its incident report on Aug 4, 2026. AISI calls the code "malicious" and says its investigations have not found any resulting real-world harm. It was a deliberately permissive research test, not proof that AI systems everywhere behave this way.

- Threat No. 5: The lawsuits are allegations, not findings. Character.AI and Google agreed to settle several family lawsuits in January 2026; Raine v. OpenAI is still pending.

- Threat No. 6: The EEOC issued its AI hiring guidance in 2022 and 2023 and removed it from its website in January 2025. The underlying anti-discrimination laws still apply.
