How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:
1. Read Part One in order. Chapters 5 to 8 are the four rules in full and everything later depends on them.
2. Do the two gates in Chapter 36.1 before accepting any client access: read your own employment contract including conflict clauses, and take Chapter 15 and Resource 18 to a qualified professional. Inbox access affects people who are not your clients.
3. Build the four-level authority ladder in writing with every client, and state explicitly that anything not on it defaults to escalate. Hold obligation-creating items at level three regardless of what the client prefers.
4. Write one procedure every week, during the task rather than afterwards. It is the master variable and it answers two of the four rules at once.
5. Never quote from a task list. Run the week-in-the-life exercise, which surfaces the recurring-and-forgotten items where the hours actually are.
6. Decide your response expectation in advance, at a level you can hold on a bad day, and never negotiate it live in an enthusiastic conversation.
7. Say yes and name it the same day for anything outside scope, ending with "no action needed now" — then reconcile monthly, in good months as well as bad.
8. Send a weekly report nobody asked for, as outcomes rather than counts, and keep the quiet weeks short.
Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
