How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:
1. Read Chapters 5 to 8 first, in order. They are the four rules and every later chapter refers back to them.
2. Then read Chapter 22 - disclosure - before your first paid piece. This book states no disclosure requirement anywhere; Chapter 14 tells you what to establish and who to ask, and Chapter 22 tells you how to do it well once you know. Verify with your national advertising standards body, each platform's own published policy, and a qualified professional.
3. Establish your baseline unsubscribe rate before your first campaign. It takes four weeks of ordinary sending and it cannot be constructed retrospectively. Without it the trust ledger cannot be read, and the trust ledger is the central document of this book.
4. Calculate your cost per ENGAGED audience member acquired, not per signup. The two routinely differ by a factor of six and only the second one is real. Section 15.6 and Resource 13.
5. Fund the reserve before the second camera and before the rate rise. Every refusal in this book - a category, a dishonest edit, a campaign in an empty quarter - is affordable only if that account has money in it. A creator who cannot afford to refuse will not refuse, whatever they have written down.
6. Write the excluded categories before anybody offers you money. The decision is made correctly by somebody who is not looking at a fee, and Chapter 18's scenario shows a list written sixteen months earlier producing an eleven-thousand-dollar relationship through a decline.
7. Agree the honest limitation at CONCEPT stage, not at draft stage. A limitation agreed three weeks earlier survives legal review; one that first appears in a draft gets removed as a stylistic choice.
8. Send the report at seven days whether or not it went well, and send a poor result faster than a good one - inside thirty hours, before your contact has been asked about it. Chapter 25's scenario turns a campaign at a third of median performance into a six-month arrangement.
Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
