How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:

1. Read Chapters 5 to 8 first, in order. They are the four rules and every later chapter refers back to them.
2. Then read Chapter 7 again before you touch a single image. It is the only rule whose failure reaches somebody who was never your client.
3. SEND A ONE-PAGE PREPARATION GUIDE on every single booking, with photographs on it rather than only sentences - because 'clear the worktops' and a picture of a cleared worktop are different instructions.
4. The AGENT sends the guide to the seller, never you. The same words from their agent are advice; from a stranger they are criticism.
5. Send it at least FORTY-EIGHT HOURS ahead. Twenty-four is not enough to move a car, clear a garage or arrange for a dog to be elsewhere.
6. CHASE IT THE DAY BEFORE, in one line. A guide that was written and not sent has zero value, and the difference between the two is one message.
7. Include the line 'every room will be photographed, including small ones' - because being surprised by it is much of what upsets sellers.
8. RECORD PREPARED-ON-ARRIVAL AS A YES OR NO ON EVERY SHOOT, judged against your own guide. Below a third you are running an unpriced second job; above two thirds the business works.

Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
