How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:

1. Read Chapters 5 to 8 first, in order. They are the four rules and every later chapter refers back to them.
2. Then read Chapter 20 - exercises and assessments - before recording a single lesson. The first assessment goes inside the first thirty minutes, takes about four hours to build, and was the single largest completion improvement of five changes.
3. Open your platform's progression data today. Five numbers: buyers who never logged in, buyers who never opened lesson two, median lesson reached, buyers who reached the final lesson, and completion rate. All five are almost certainly already there.
4. Define completion as the final assessment rather than the final video, measure it by PURCHASE COHORT rather than as a lifetime total, and publish it with the definition attached. The choice of definition changes the number by roughly a factor of three.
5. Add up total learner hours by timing three people who finished, then state the figure on the sales page in the same size type as the price, split into video and work, with an elapsed period and an explicit line telling people not to buy yet if they cannot find the time. Expect conversion to fall and expect completion, testimonials and referrals to rise by more.
6. Measure first-assessment completion within seven days of purchase. It is the only leading indicator in this business and it moves two to four months before completion does. A working target is 50 to 65 per cent; under 30 per cent means the first thirty minutes are not working.
7. Test the outcome as a paid two-hour workshop before building a curriculum. It costs about a weekend to prepare, earns money rather than spending it, and typically exposes four of the seven assumptions a full build would bake in.
8. Build the minimum viable curriculum and cut a third to a half of what you first listed. Every hour removed is an hour of the learner's price refunded, and the shorter version is cheaper to build, faster to update and completes better.

Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
