How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:
1. Read Chapters 5 to 8 first, in order. They are the four rules and every later chapter refers back to them.
2. Then read Chapter 21 before you publish anything, and Chapter 6 before you add a single relation.
3. COUNT YOUR MOVING PARTS: every database, relation, rollup, formula, view, button and in-page template is one. Total them per product and across the catalogue, then estimate the hours to re-test all of them once and multiply by four checks a year. If that does not fit your year, the catalogue is too large.
4. Hand your duplication link to somebody who does NOT use Notion, say nothing, and time them from duplication to their own real data being in the system. Write down every hesitation without helping. Each hesitation is one sentence you have not written. Do this with three people before publishing.
5. If setup takes more than twenty minutes, cut the SYSTEM rather than the test. Anything requiring a second sitting requires an appointment, and nobody makes an appointment with a template.
6. Make the first screen ONE INSTRUCTION - not a dashboard, which shows zeros on the only day that decides anything, and not a menu, which invites browsing and leaving.
7. Write the setup checklist BEFORE you build anything, in seven steps or fewer, each a single action producing something visible, ending by naming the one view they should open tomorrow.
8. Label sample data 'Example - delete me' and make deleting it an explicit numbered step. Realistic sample data creates a stall; empty databases look broken.
Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
