How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:
1. Read Part One in order. Chapters 5 to 8 are the four rules in full and everything later depends on them — including the interaction between them, which is where the risk actually sits.
2. Do the two gates in Chapter 36.1 before accepting a paying client: read your own employment contract including the IP clause, and take Chapter 15 and Resource 18 to a qualified professional. Data lost by somebody in the client's own organisation is the case to ask about first.
3. Say "show me the last five" instead of "how does this usually work". Five real examples produce more requirement than an hour of description.
4. Set up a scheduled tested data export for every tool and record the date it was last tested. Tested means somebody opened the file and confirmed the relations are reconstructable.
5. Get the data model agreed in plain language, read back to the person who does the work, and challenge every sentence with "is that always true?" before anything is built.
6. Set every client tool up under the client's own account, on their payment method, from day one — never under yours, at any stage, for any reason.
7. Run the ceiling probe before quoting: real volume, the hardest case, the permission matrix tested by logging in, and one real export.
8. Measure adoption monthly and put it in the report. It is the master variable and the only thing the client genuinely judges.
Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
