How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:

1. Read Chapters 5 to 8 first, in order. They are the four rules and every later chapter refers back to them.
2. Then read Chapter 18 - content clusters - before you publish a single post. In Kit's archive, posts inside finished clusters earned at 62%, posts in unfinished clusters at 12%, and posts outside every cluster at under 1%.
3. Build the cluster board on day one. A cluster counts as COMPLETE only when every planned post exists, the pillar links to all of them, and every supporting post links back. Three of four conditions is not complete.
4. Count completed clusters monthly. It is one of only two numbers in this business that describe today rather than work done eighteen months ago, and it cannot be gamed by publishing more.
5. Calculate your dead-post share quarterly: posts over twenty-four months old that have never earned meaningful traffic, over total posts. Above your threshold, prune before publishing anything new.
6. Measure your own publication-to-earning lag with one hour and a spreadsheet: for every post that has earned, publication date, first earning month, and the difference. Take the MEDIAN, not the mean, and split it by inside and outside finished clusters.
7. Never act on this month's traffic. Record it monthly, act quarterly, and compare only against the same quarter a year earlier - the business is both lagged and seasonal.
8. Write every post to stand alone completely: the answer in the first screen instead of an introduction, no reference to your other posts, one line saying who you are and why you would know, and ONE chosen next step. Ninety-four per cent of readers see a single page.
