How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:
1. Read the Introduction and Chapters 4 to 7 first, in order. Those are the four rules, and everything after them assumes them.
2. If you already do this work, start with Chapter 4, then Chapter 26, then Chapter 23 - the record you are probably not keeping, the weekly check that would find the problem early, and the claim you will eventually receive.
3. Count every item at collection, record it against a bag number, and send the customer the list the same day. Charging by the bag is not the same as counting by the bag. Chapter 4.
4. Count out against the intake sheet before any bag leaves your hands. A count in with no count out proves the item arrived and says nothing about whether it left. Section 25.5.
5. Supply your own numbered bags, three per household, with the do-not-take list and a pocket reminder printed on them. A customer's own bag has no number, no fill limit, and no rules on it. Chapter 17.
6. Never mix households - not in a machine, a basket, a bay, or a vehicle. A stranger's clothes in somebody's bag is not treated as an error; it is treated as evidence of how you work. Section 5.3.
7. Wear gloves for every bag from every household, and tip bags out rather than reaching in. Selective precautions are both a judgement about people and a system that fails on the day you are wrong. Section 24.2.
8. Follow the pocket protocol every time: remove, bag, label, photograph, record, notify the same day, and return sealed. Never keep anything, including small change. Chapter 6.
