1. Read Chapters 3, 4, 5 and 6 before you take a single paid job. They are weight, authorization, the work you must decline, and disposal — and they are the four things that end businesses in this trade.
2. Go outside and photograph your driver's door placard today. Then find a public scale and weigh the vehicle empty, equipped, fuelled, with you in it. Section 3.12.
3. Set a working limit BELOW your legal limit and write it on a card for the cab. Section 3.14.
4. Visit every disposal facility empty, before you have a customer, and write down the LAST ACCEPTANCE time rather than the closing time. Section 6.4.
5. Send your written scope to an insurance broker before any conversation, then ask the twenty-four questions in Section 11.6 and get the answers in writing.
6. Have the authorization form in Resource 19 reviewed by an attorney in your state before you use it. It is the cheapest legal protection in this book.
7. Book manual handling training and a certified first aid course. Chapter 18 gives no lifting technique because no book can.
8. Read the Introduction, then Chapters 1, 7, 12 and 14 if you want to start within a month.
