1. Read the Introduction and Chapters 4 to 7 first, in order. Those are the four rules. Then read Chapter 29 before your next shift, because it produces the number every other decision in the book depends on.
2. Before your next shift, ask your insurer in writing whether your policy excludes delivery, courier, or commercial use. A great many ordinary personal policies do, they do not announce it, and the answer is a stop-work item rather than a risk to manage. Chapter 16.2.
3. Ask your insurer what evidence they would want after a claim. That answer is the specification for your delivery record and it answers the dashcam question. Chapter 16.2.
4. Never handle the phone while the car is moving. Not at a red light, not for an expiring offer, not to check navigation. Fit a mount as high as local law permits, turn spoken navigation on at a volume audible at speed, set the route before the wheels turn, and identify three legal places in your zone where you can pull in for ninety seconds. Chapter 4.
5. Let offers expire while driving. That is the default rather than a failure, and logging expired offers for a fortnight shows what the rule actually costs - which is smaller than drivers assume, because the missed offers skew toward the marginal ones. Chapter 4.5.
6. Never accelerate to reach a stopping place before a countdown ends. That converts a good rule into a worse hazard. Chapter 4.6.
7. Make the accept-or-decline decision stationary, and divide the payment by TRUE total miles - the drive to the pickup, the delivery itself, and the leg back to somewhere with demand. The apparent figure typically overstates the true one by a third to a half. Chapter 21.3.
8. Log every offer, accepted and declined, with a one-word reason. The acceptances tell you what happened; the declines tell you about your judgement, which is the only thing you can improve. Chapter 5.5.
