How this one is meant to be worked through, in the author's own words:

1. Read the Introduction and Chapters 4 to 7 first, in order. Those are the four rules, and every chapter after them assumes them.
2. Write the four rules somewhere you will see them before a visit. Every serious failure in this trade is one of the four being broken by somebody who thought they were being kind.
3. Establish, from the body that sets the rule and before your first client: at what point a service like yours requires registration with a care regulator, and what triggers it. This is the question that can close a business. Chapter 16.
4. Establish the designated adult safeguarding route and whether any duty to report applies to you personally. A route you have to find while holding a concern is one you will not use. Chapter 7.
5. Ask your insurer, in writing: what happens to my cover if a client's needs change and personal care becomes involved? That is the moment somebody will ask you to do something, and the answer is the commercial reason the refusal chapter exists. Chapter 14.
6. Do intake as two conversations, and insist on at least twenty minutes alone with the client. If that is refused, treat it as the serious signal it is. Chapter 17.
7. Ask the client directly whether they actually want somebody coming, and take a soft no seriously. 'If you like' and 'it's up to my daughter' are not consent. Chapter 18.
8. Tell every client, plainly, how to stop the service - and put a clause in the agreement saying they may end the visits at any time regardless of who is paying. Almost no agreement in this sector contains it. Chapters 10 and 29.

Written to be used rather than skimmed. Every financial figure is left blank on purpose, and anything touching law, tax, insurance or data protection is written as questions for a qualified professional rather than answers.
